Tips for Setting up Your Practice YouTube Channel
Videos are the preferred medium for many different online search queries, so utilizing quality video content that is relevant to your target audience is important in expanding your online reach. YouTube is now one of the top five search engines in the world and it’s important your practice has a presence on this platform.
How to set up a YouTube channel:
Step 1: Visit www.youtube.com and click on the blue ‘Sign In’ button in the top, right-hand corner of the page. You will need a Google account to create a YouTube channel, so sign up for one if you haven’t already. Otherwise, login with your current one.
Step 2: Click on the YouTube menu on the left-hand side of the page and click on ‘My Channel.’ Your channel name will appear and is the name you registered your Google account with. If you want to setup a channel under your practice name, click ‘All my channels’ and then ‘Create a New Channel.’ Fill in your practice name and select ‘Company’ as the category.
Step 3: Populate your channel with images and a description:
- Select a profile picture if you haven’t already by hovering over the blue silhouette and clicking the pencil icon. Your logo or a head shot are great options.
- Choose an image for your cover photo that represents your practice by hovering over this area and clicking ‘Add Channel Art’ to upload an image. Images of your practice or other hearing-related artwork would be appropriate here.
- Add a channel description by clicking on the ‘Channel Description’ button. This is an important area because search engines will index this text. Make sure to use keywords that are relevant to the channel and the types of videos you have. An example is:
“ABC Hearing specializes in a variety of audiology services including hearing aids, hearing aid fitting, and pediatric audiology. We strive to improve hearing loss for you and your loved ones. Please visit our channel for tips and videos about our practice and general hearing loss and hearing aid topics. “
Step 4: You’re ready to start uploading videos! Click the ‘Upload’ button in the top right. Supported file formats include: .MOV, .MPEG4, MP4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, 3GPP and WebM. You can upload a file by browsing on your computer or simply dragging and dropping the file over on the screen.
